5 sep ’24 – Late Summer Spheres: Art, Academia, and Activism

A collaboration between De Generator and the University of Leiden, discussing and presenting work that binds arts, activism & academia. An evening full of discussions, presentations and performances on important political themes and strategies.

We are happy to announce that on the occasion of the visit by acclaimed academic and curator Cecilia O’Leary and historian and author Tony Platt, a presentation and discussion evening is being held collaboratively between The Van Vollenhoven Institute for Law & Society (Leiden University) and the Generator.

The event is being held for practitioners working at the intersections of art, academia and activism in the Netherlands. We want to provide the opportunity for artists, curators, and academics to make connections and discuss and present work or work in progress. We want to support collaborative approaches to addressing the most pressing contemporary societal local and global issues.

Currently, systemic inequalities continue to marginalise communities. Similarly, the climate crisis is not merely a scientific concern but also a political, cultural and emotional one.  Both academic and artistic disciplines have roles in informing, creatively strategising, fostering empathetic positions, inspiring action and broadening the audience for these contemporary ‘wicked problems’.

Please let us know if you have any questions regarding this event email: c.j.donaldson@law.leidnenuniv.nl or info@theaterdegenerator.nl.

We look forward to meeting in Leiden with its beautiful summer evenings!
