Black Sheep Don’t Lie
Black Sheep Don’t Lie is a performance-art workshop by Larysa Bauge about turning lived experience into a performance act. A memory, conflict, family trace, object, feeling or personal question becomes the starting point for a short piece of live work. You do not need previous performance experience. You only need curiosity, a body, and material you are willing to work with. The workshop takes place in the context of De Generator’s Stop Femicide programme.
Performance-art workshop
During the day, participants choose personal material and work with it through movement, objects, repetition, sound, text, space and attention. You can use your own language and personal objects for your act. You can work directly, symbolically, quietly, absurdly or physically. You do not have to explain your story. You decide what stays hidden and what becomes visible. Programmed in the context of De Generator’s Stop Femicide programme, the workshop creates space to work with visibility, shame, refusal, pressure and the body. Not as therapy. Not as confession. As performance: a way to give form to what is usually swallowed, softened or kept silent.
What to bring
Please bring material to work with. Choose things that carry weight for you, even if you do not yet know exactly why. Clothes, underwear, shoes or accessories, toys, personal objects, objects from home or found objects, photos, letters, notes, texts, documents or fragments of language, music, sounds or voice recordings, anything connected to memory, family, identity, shame, desire, fear, anger, tenderness, pressure or refusal
You decide how directly or indirectly you want to use the material. You never have to reveal more than you want to.
Evening showing
The day ends with an informal evening showing. Participants can share short performance sketches or images developed during the workshop. It is not a polished final presentation, but a moment where the work can be witnessed.
Black Sheep Don’t Lie is open to artists, makers and curious participants who want to explore performance, memory, body and image. Maximum 12 participants.
About Larysa Bauge
Larysa Bauge is a Belarusian performance artist, artistic researcher and educator based in The Hague. Originally trained in classical music and orchestra conducting, she works with body, image, object and social conditioning through performance. Her practice moves between live art, participatory formats and artistic research, exploring how lived experience, power, identity, migration and institutional behaviour become visible through the body.
